Modernization concept for the production of high-grade thin strip Making 2 out of 1 – New Compact Cold Mill from SMS Siemag for Bangladesh
KYCR Coil Industries Limited, Bangladesh, has contracted SMS Siemag, Germany, for an upgrade of the existing CVC? plus six-high reversing cold mill to a CCM? (Compact Cold Mill).
Since 2002, the SMS Siemag-supplied single-stand reversing cold mill
(RCM) at KYCR Coil Industries Limited in Chittagong, Bangladesh, has
been producing high-quality cold strip in widths of between 600 and
1,050 millimeters and with a minimum final thickness of 0.09
millimeters. The plant was specially designed for thin-strip rolling.
This includes operation with slim work rolls, which have a minimum
diameter of 200 millimeters and provide for high pass reductions. After
the plant has been in operation for more than ten years now, KYCR has
decided to further improve the performance and increase the capacity of
the RCM, making use of the tailor-made SMS Siemag upgrading concept.
As SMS Siemag had already considered the possibility of a later upgrade
when planning the original plant, the existing RCM can now be extended
at minimal effort to a two-stand CCM? with CVC? plus in both mill stands. With this step KYCR will increase the annual production capacity to approx. 170,000 tons.
The SMS Siemag scope of supply also includes the X-Pact?
electrical and automation systems. Within the framework of the plant
upgrade, the electrical and automation systems, including those of the
existing plant section, will be replaced by a new, highly dynamic
control system with the latest set point and master value technology.
This also includes user-friendly process visualization and control.
In addition to the core equipment of the millstand SMS Siemag will also
supply an extension of the high-pressure and low-pressure systems and
the emulsion system into the room that had already been provided for
this purpose in the basement. Esmech Equipment Pvt. Ltd. and SMS Siemag
India Pvt. Ltd. - both members of the SMS group - are involved in
the supply of additional electrical and automation equipment.
KYCR benefits from the fact that from the very beginning the foundations
were designed such that the second millstand can be installed without
incurring great expenditure. Only the exit-side equipment such as
tension reel, coil transfer car and belt wrapper need to be relocated.
The plant extension is planned in such a way that the necessary downtime
will be kept as short as possible. The first strip is scheduled to be
rolled on the CCM? as early as in the second half of 2014.
