Erdemir relines blast furnace, suspends 20% of capacity

Turkish integrated flat steel producer Erdemir started relining its blast furnace No.2 at its Eregli works in
northern Turkey on Monday. The process will take about 90 days to complete, a company executive
confirms.
Erdemir has about 9 million tonnes/year liquid steel production capacity - the reline will temporarily put
20% of this off line. The company executive tells Platts Steel Business Briefing that blast furnace No.4 at its
Iskenderun works in southern Turkey may also undergo relining soon; however, he declined to specify exact
dates.
Demand for flat rolled steel in Turkey is currently quite low, but the relining of two BFs may cause a
tightening of steel supply in the country, Platts SBB is told.
