Nippon Steel has decided to reline the No. 4 blast furnace of our Yawata
Works. Pursuing investment efficiency and cost-minimum operations, we
optimize the specifications of this equipment. This relining is going to
help solidifying our competitive strength in the manufacture of iron
and steel in the global market.
Outline of the relining project:
1. Furnace volume: 5,000m3 (at present, 4,250m3)
2. Start of relining: in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013 (period for completion:
85 days)
3. Investment: approx. \34 billion
4. Main constructor: Nippon Steel Engineering Co., Ltd.
5. Notes: The present No. 4 BF started operation in February 1998.
