The UK Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has amended the safeguard measure of the Category 12 Non-Alloy and Other Alloy Merchant Bars and Light Sections, with effect from January 1, 2022.
TRA said the previous 12 category quotas will be split and replaced by two new quota product categories, the revised quota amounts for Category 12A, alloy merchant bars and light sections, and Category 12B, non-alloy merchant bars and light with sections.
Previously, China's imports of merchant bars were not subject to any country-specific quotas. After the revision, such products from China will be subject to country-specific quotas for Category 12A.
In September, UK Steel and the Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM) proposed dividing Category 12 into merchant and specialty bar products. The demand for these products exceeds supply in the UK.
