It was said that European steelmakers are seeking to enlarge the EU safeguard on steel imported from Vietnam, but it is still in the process.
Vietnam is exempted from the EU steel safeguard because it’s on the list of developing economies.
Currently, only four of Vietnam's steel products, including cold-rolled coil (CRC), organic coated sheets, stainless CRC, and seamless steel pipes other than stainless, are in EU safeguard.
It was particularly noted that EU steelmakers are pretty worried about the competitiveness of other Vietnamese steel products, such as hot-dip galvanized (HDG) steel, and are seeking further safeguard measures on this kind of product.
However, an official review would need to go through before the safeguard enlargement for the current system, which probably not going to happen before July 2022.
