US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that the US is willing to review and consider lowering Section 232 tariffs on China implemented by former President Trump. Yellen said that as US Trade Representative Katherine Tai said that the US is reviewing the first phase of the trade agreement and some requests to reduce tariffs in some areas, and the US will certainly put it under consideration.
The former Trump administration imposed tariffs on steel, aluminum, and some commodities. These tariffs impacted the US’ imports of more than US$400 billion every year or led to a loss of more than US$50 billion for consumers.
