52-year-old killed in steel site accident

(JB) A steel worker was killed in an accident on an ArcelorMittal site in Niederkorn on Monday morning, police have reported.

Luxembourg Police confirmed that the victim was a 52-year-old steel worker at the Haneboesch industrial zone. He died of his injuries following the accident at around 11:15am.

It is believed that he was checking the load of a crane carrier when the steel beams being transported fell onto him.

The watchdog responsible for policing workplace safety, the ITM; and the Luxembourg prosecution were informed of the incident.

Forensics investigations were being conducted at the scene on Monday. An autopsy will be carried out in the coming days.
