Indonesian Congress appeals government to impose steel import restrictions

The Indonesian Congress said that the government's imposition of steel restrictions will let domestic steel mills have good opportunities to increase the domestic market share or expand export markets.

In addition, they emphasized that improving the competitiveness of the domestic steel industry requires two strategies, including the implementation of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) and trade remedy policies.

The proposed measure included the improvement of the effectiveness of SNI and imposition of anti-dumping duties on cold-rolled coils, cold-rolled sheets, hot-rolled coils, zinc-aluminum coated steel, and cold-rolled stainless steel products, as well as the implementation of safeguard measures on I-beams and H-beams.
