South Korea imposes preliminary duty on Chinese plate

The Ministry of Economy and Finance of South Korea officially imposed temporary anti-dumping duties on carbon and alloy hot rolled plate imported from China on 24 April, which took effect immediately, notes Kallanish notes.

The temporary anti-dumping duties will be valid for four months, until 23 August.

Targeted products are HR plates with a thickness of no less than 4.75mm and a width of no less than 600mm.

They come under South Korean HS codes 7208.51.1000, 7208.51.9000, 7208.52.1000, 7208.52.9000, 7225.40.9010, 7225.40.9091, and 7225.40.9099.

The rates are the same as that recommended by the Korea Trade Commission on 20 February, ranging from 27.91% to 38.02%.

In the first quarter of the year, South Korea imported a total 365,655 tonnes of the targeted products, which was down 33.6% from a year earlier. Within this, imports from China dropped 39.5% to 202,125t, with its share of the total amount falling from 60.7% to 55.3%.
