Transmesa to supply stainless tube for hydrogen applications

Spanish stainless steel tube manufacturer Transmesa is investing €15 million ($17.03 million) to expand its Sant Ramon production plant in Lleida. The investment includes a new cold-rolling line, specifically designed to meet the needs of hybrid and hydrogen-powered vehicles, Kallanish notes.

“The new production line will complement our existing portfolio and will be mainly targeted at hydrogen and methane engines for hybrid vehicles and railway machinery, as well as semiconductor production facilities using gases and fluids,” Transmesa says.

The Sant Ramon plant expansion includes two new industrial buildings and new machinery, increasing the site’s total area to over 22,000m² and bringing the number of production halls to five. The new line is scheduled to be fully operational in the third quarter and is expected to boost Transmesa’s annual turnover by 33%, from €60m to €80m.

Part of Slovak group Železiarne Podbrezová since 2008, Transmesa operates three plants: Sant Ramon and Arenys de Mar in Spain, and Sterling Heights in the US. The company exports nearly all of its output to over 40 countries, with the US market representing 25% of global revenue.
