Tokyo Steel reduces prices for some products

Tokyo Steel is reducing prices of section steel, thick plate, U-shaped steel sheet pile for May sales by JPY 3,000/tonne ($21/t) month-on-month, Kallanish learns from its release on Monday.

The prices of the above products did not decrease last month. After the price cut, the base price for H-shaped steel, striped H-shaped steel, I-shaped steel, channel steel will be JPY 112,000/t, JPY 122,000/t, JPY 113,000/t and JPY 108,000/t, respectively, in May. U-shaped steel sheet pile will be at JPY 124,000/t. The thick plate is to range between JPY 100,000-104,000/t.

Other products whose prices were reduced last month will remain unchanged on-month for May sales, including rebar, hot-rolled coil/sheet, hot-dip galvanized coil, checkered steel coil/sheet and pickled steel coil/sheet (see Kallanish 18 March).

The Japanese steelmaker says concerns about the downturn in the global economy have postponed domestic investment projects. Uncertainty surrounding export-oriented industries has triggered worries about automobile steel and plate demand.
