Crude steel production among the member mills of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) rose by 1.1% on year during this year's first quarter to reach 212 million tonnes, according to the latest data released by the association on April 16.
The CISA member mills' combined production accounted for 81.9% of China's total crude steel output of 259 million tonnes in Q1, Mysteel Global calculated based on the statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics.
Meanwhile, these member mills churned out 187 million tonnes of pig iron and 207 million tonnes of finished steel during Q1, up 0.7% and 2.4% respectively on year, the CISA statistics showed.
For March alone, crude steel production among the member mills picked up by 3.3% on year to 73.83 million tonnes, and their daily output averaged 2.38 million tonnes/day last month, higher by 5.5% compared to February.
Their pig iron and finished steel output came in at 64.42 million tonnes and 73.8 million tonnes respectively last month, up 2.2% and 5.4% on year.
