Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has imposed preliminary anti-dumping (AD) duties on certain coated steel imported from China and South Korea, according to a MOIT release on April 1. The case will take effect 15 days after the date of issuance and will last for 120 days.
The probe will investigate the import of over 40 different types of flat-rolled carbon steel products both in coil and non-coil forms, containing less than 0.6% carbon by weight and coated or plated with anti-corrosive metals (galvanized), according to the MOIT.
The temporary duties are applied at 0 and 37.13% on imports from China and at 0%, 13.7% and 15.67% for South Korean imports.
Chinese steelmakers like Baoshan Iron & Steel Co and Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron & Steel Co are subject to the highest AD duty of 37.13%, while South Korea's Hyundai Steel Co faces a 13.7% provisional AD duty, Mysteel Global observed.
Previously, the MOIT had launched this AD investigation on June 14 2024, in response to a petition submitted by five Vietnamese steelmakers in last April, namely Hoa Sen Group, Nam Kim Steel, Southern Steel Sheet, Ton Dong A Corporation and China Steel & Nippon Steel Vietnam, as Mysteel Global reported.
Later in early March this year, the Vietnam Steel Association had urged the MOIT to hasten its decision on this case, warning that increasing volumes of low-priced Chinese coated coils are placing significant pressure on domestic manufacturers, as reported.
