Crude steel production among the member mills of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) during this year's first two months dipped by 0.4% on year to reach 137.36 million tonnes in total, according to the latest data released by the association on March 18.
This accounted for 82.6% of China's total crude steel output of 166.3 million tonnes during January-February, Mysteel Global calculated based on the statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics.
In parallel, these member mills churned out 121.67 million tonnes of pig iron in the first two months, down 0.2% on year. In contrast, their finished steel production ticked up by 1.2% during the same period to 133.12 million tonnes, the CISA data showed.
For February, crude steel production at these mills increased by 0.9% on year, with the volume adding up to 67.71 million tonnes. Meanwhile, their pig iron output fell slightly by 0.3% on year to 59.72 million tonnes, while finished steel production climbed 3.9% on year to 66.35 million tonnes.
