Chinese EV maker Leapmotor has officially launched in the UK, with two “affordable” electric vehicle models going on sale on Wednesday at Stellantis dealerships in the country.
Through a joint venture with the European automaker, the T03 and C10 models will be available at 44 Stellantis dealerships, expanding to 80 dealers by the end of this year, Kallanish notes. The international JV is 51% owned by Stellantis and 49% by Leapmotor.
“These exciting new electric cars epitomise our bold mission to be the best value EV brand in the UK by delivering the highest level of specification and the highest level of technology, as standard,” comments Damien Dally, Leapmotor’s UK managing director. “We believe customers shouldn’t have to compromise on quality for affordability and that this is truly a value without compromise proposition for UK car buyers.”
The C10, a large, family-oriented D-segment SUV, is priced at £36,500 ($47,377). It features a 69.9 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, offering a range of up to 261 miles (WLTP). In addition, it comes with “premium standard features” including a central touchscreen, heated steering wheel, and driver assistance systems, such as advanced emergency braking.
Meanwhile, the T03 starts at £15,995. It is a compact, city-focused, A-segment hatchback marketed as “fun to drive.” It offers a WLTP range of up to 165 miles and features a 37.3-kWh battery.
“The new Leapmotor line-up delivers the best value of any electric car brand, offering the highest levels of quality, specification and technology as standard across all models,” Stellantis says in a statement. The models “exceed market standards for technology,” it claims.
While the T03 is built in Tychy, Poland, the C10 is manufactured in Jinhua, in China’s Zhejiang province. BEVs made in China and imported into the EU are subject to countervailing tariffs on top of the regular 10% duty. There are no extra tariffs on Chinese BEV imports in the UK.
