Tokyo Steel lowers April prices for some products

Tokyo Steel is to lower the prices of rebar and most flat product in April after keeping prices unchanged for five months, Kallanish notes.

Declining imported steel prices amid a stronger Yen, unsettled international trade environment due to the trade war and continued sluggish domestic demand has resulted in the steelmaker to respond with a price reduction.

Its April prices for rebar have been cut by JPY 3,000/tonne ($20/t) on-month to JPY 85,000-86,000/t. Section steel prices are unchanged on-month.

For flats, the base price for pickled steel coil is at JPY 95,000/t for April sales, down JPY 5,000/t m-o-m.

The price decline of hot-rolled coil/sheet, striped coil, hot-dip galvanized coil, checkered steel sheet and pickled steel sheet is JPY 3,000/t while thick plate prices are unchanged at JPY 103,000-107,000/t.

The company noted that construction plans for manufacturing facilities were also being heard in the gloomy domestic construction market.

China's measures to stimulus steel demand and to cut steel production are also on the steelmaker's watch list.
