During last year, China's electrical steel production capacity reached 17.895 million tonnes, within which the total capacity of non-grain-oriented electrical steel (NGOES) was 14.635 million tonnes, up by approximately 920,000 tonnes or 6.7% on year. The production capacity of grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES) was 3.26 million tonnes, higher by some 180,000 tonnes or 5.8% on year, CSM reported.
Among the 26 NGOES producers and 25 GOES producers in China, Baoshan Iron & Steel Co. and Shougang Zhixin Qian'an Electromagnetic. Material Co. are the two largest companies in terms of output, ranking first and second, respectively, the CSM release noted.
Regarding overseas business, China's electrical steel exports jumped by 16.89% on year to hit a record high of about 1.448 million tonnes in 2024, while the country's electrical steel imports plunged by 47.26% from 2023 to sit at just 148,100 tonnes, data from China's General Administration of Customs showed.
