Tokyo Steel is to hold its March offers for the fifth consecutive month amid an uncertain direction and ongoing weakness in the Asia markets following the Spring Festival.
Its March base price for rebar, H-beam and plate remains at JPY 88,000/tonne ($580/t), JPY 115,000/t, and JPY 103,000/t respectively. Although the price in Yen did not change, the appreciation of the currency caused the converted dollar price to rise approximately 2.8% month-on-month, Kallanish notes.
In the Japanese domestic market, both construction steel demand and flat steel demand remained sluggish. But there were said to be many inquiries for short-term delivery of construction steel for small and medium-sized projects in addition to large-scale projects since Spring. Additionally, investment appetite in strengthening domestic bases and digital transformation remains solid.
