Hengyang Valin Steel Tube Co (Valin Henggang) is to partner with Danieli to build an extra-large diameter seamless steel pipe continuous rolling line.
The pipe line construction plan was disclosed by its shareholder listed Hunan Valin Steel last December (see Kallanish 11 December 2024). The new line is expected to be commissioned next July, according to Danieli, which will provide a process design and equipment supply for the project.
The maximum pipe diameter of this production line reaches 24 inches. Its products spectrum covers diameters of 323.8-610mm and wall thickness of 7.2-65mm, which can be widely used in energy, infrastructure and high-end manufacturing.
Hunan Valin Steel opted to add this new unit to reduce production costs of large diameter pipe, improve competitiveness and enhance its leading advantages in the industry during the industry downturn. The preliminary estimated net profits of Hunan Valin Steel fell 55%-67% year-on-year in 2024 to CNY 1.7-2.3 billion ($234.7million). Sector wide, 14 listed steelmakers are expecting losses in 2024, totalling more than CNY 30 billion.
