Farasis, JMEV start solid-state battery cooperation

Chinese battery manufacturer Farasis Energy and Hong Kong-based automaker JMEV plan to cooperate on solid-state battery development and commercialisation.

The strategic agreement includes the research, production and market application of solid-state batteries, Kallanishlearns. The technology is set to unlock a competitive edge in EV technology due to benefits such as high energy density, fast charging, long cycle life and enhanced safety, compared to traditional liquid electrolyte-based batteries.

The companies already cooperate on battery procurement. Farasis has just started series production of its SPS (super pouch solution) batteries, to be equipped in JMEV’s Elight all-electric sedan. Details on production capacity and supply volumes were not disclosed.

Farasis says it has been deeply engaged in areas such as electrochemical systems and pouch battery stacking processes for many years. This aligns with its solid-state tech development journey.

It has started mass production of its first-generation semi-solid-state batteries for passenger EVs, and is promoting deployment in commercial vehicles through a partnership with FAW.

According to JMEV, Elight was the first BEV model built in compliance with Sino-Euro standards. The carmaker manufactured its first EV model in 2015, in China.
