Mexico extends duty on Chinese steel wire

The Mexican Ministry of Economy (SE) has extended for a second consecutive time an anti-dumping duty on permanent and temporary imports of carbon and alloyed micro-welding steel wire from China, regardless of country of origin, Kallanish notes.

Authorities announced in the country’s Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) on 28 August that they accept the reason for the petition by Mexico's Electrodos Infra, Lincoln Electric and Plásticos y Alambres that the removal of duties would negatively impact domestic production.

SE modified the compensatory duty of $0.57/kg that was originally implemented in October 2018 for imports of micro-welding steel wire classified under HS codes 7229.20.01, 7229.90.99 and 8311.90.01 with an ad valorem duty of 18.97%. The measure's validity is for five years starting on 6 October 2023.

The investigation involved the period between July 2022 and June 2023, while the injury analysis was focused on the period between July 2018 and June 2023.
