German electrolyser manufacturer H-Tec Systems says it will open its so-called Gigahub electrolyser factory in Hamburg at the end of next month.
When fully operational, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 5 gigawatts. While the new plant will facilitate the automated series production of stacks, Kallanish understands the finished stacks and electrolysers will be assembled at H-Tec’s Augsburg site in southern Germany.
The company claims that the automated production at the Gigahub will save up to 75% of the production time needed to manufacture the stacks. The factory is set to employ around 200 people in production, development, testing and service.
The German firm also announced it will change its name to Quest One on 30 September. The company aims to avoid 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
“Which is why we are focusing on hydrogen… this mammoth task is a true quest and hugely motivating for us,” says Robin von Plettenberg, ceo of H-Tec Systems. “We want to develop Quest One into one of the world’s largest manufacturers of electrolysers and help shape the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy.”
Diesel engine manufacturer MAN Energy Solutions, the parent company of H-Tec, in 2022 committed a financing of up to €500 million ($557.2m) to the company “over the next few years.” H-Tec has also set up a modular hydrogen platform (MHP) development and sales facility at MAN’s site in Houston, Texas.
“We are building the most modern stack production facility in Europe,” comments Uwe Lauber, ceo of MAN Energy Solutions. “Today, H-Tec Systems is a leading driver of the hydrogen transition, for which international business is also becoming increasingly important.”
