Chinese automaker BYD has officially launched three models in Vietnam, ready to compete with Vietnamese carmaker VinFast, Kallanish Power Materials reports.
The BYD Seal, Atto 3 and Dolphin all-electric models were announced in a launch ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City. They will be imported and available for delivery in October.
Sales will be done through 13 retail stores BYD plans to open in the country, according to Vo Minh Luc, BYD Vietnam’s chief operating officer. By 2026, this network should reach 100 dealers, he adds.
The mid-size fastback sedan BYD Seal has two versions: the advanced version priced at VND 1.12 billion ($44,225), and the performance version priced at VND 1.36 billion. The compact crossover BYD Atto 3 will be available at VND 766 million under the dynamic version and VND 886m under the premium version. The hatchback BYD Dolphin is priced at VND 659m.
According to Reuters, BYD is in talks with a number of potential locations in Vietnam to optimise its production plant plan. Kallanish has contacted BYD Vietnam for comment.
The automaker had previously planned to land the production plant in the northern part of the country.
Liu Xueliang, general manager of automotive sales division, BYD Asia Pacific, says the company will bring the best technology and service to local customers and help the country’s electrification.
