Retail sales of passenger vehicles across China ticked up by 3% on year in the first half of this year to reach 9.83 million units, according to the latest data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on Wednesday.
For June alone, the country's passenger car sales reached 1.76 million units, rising by 2% on month though this was down 8% on year, according to the CPCA.
Within the totals, sales of new-energy vehicles (NEVs) jumped by 33% on year to 4.12 million units over January-June, among which 864,000 units were sold in June, higher by 6% on month and soaring by 30% on year, the CPCA data showed.
"There was a total of 19 working days in June this year, two days fewer than during June last year, which was not conducive to boosting car sales," the CPCA said. However, the association pointed out that promotional measures such as trade-ins of older cars for new had continued to stimulate the domestic automotive market last month.
