Demand for new-energy vehicles (NEVs) among Chinese customers will maintain rising momentum, with the electric car market, in particular, continuing to grow rapidly, said Li Chao, spokesperson of the country's economic planner National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), at a press conference on June 18.
By the end of 2023, NEV ownership has capped 20 million units in China, of which 15.5 million are electric vehicles, Li shared at the conference.
Sales of NEVs across China amounted to 9.5 million units in 2023, jumping by 37.9% on year. And the market share of NEVs reached 31.6%, as Mysteel Global reported.
To cope with the fast-growing demand for electric cars, China has also built the largest charging infrastructure system, and it aims to push forward the construction of 3,000 charging piles and 5,000 rechargeable parking spots in highway service areas across the country this year, Li said.
