Tokyo Steel Japan has introduced its new green steel brand, enso®. The products, including Hot Rolled Coil (HRC) and Hot Rolled Plate (HRP), have significantly lower carbon emissions than traditional blast furnace steel, with HRC and HRP containing roughly one-third and one-fifth of the embodied carbon emissions, respectively.
Tokyo Steel utilizes electric arc production with recycled steel scrap and highly efficient processes to reduce emissions. They plan to release an ultra-low-carbon product made with 100% renewable energy by late 2024. Hisanori Sakai, Executive Officer GM of International Sales, emphasized Tokyo Steel's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and the circular economy. Developed with Stemcor, the enso® brand meets the growing European demand for sustainable steel, aligning with the upcoming EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
