Czech hot-rolled plate producer Vitkovice Steel has signed a memorandum with Vulcan Green Steel, a part of the Jindal Steel Group, securing 1 million tons of green slabs from their upcoming plant in Oman.
This move aligns with Vitkovice Steel's goal of becoming a leading European producer of low-carbon rolled steel. The agreement allows them to produce up to 1 million tons of slabs annually with thicknesses ranging from 230 to 300 mm.
The Vulcan Green Steel plant in Oman, set to be completed by 2026, will have an initial production capacity of 5 million tons of decarbonized steel per year, utilizing renewable energy sources and ensuring a low carbon footprint.
Vitkovice Steel's search for new slab suppliers intensified in recent years, with a focus on reducing the carbon footprint. Additionally, they plan to construct warehouses for their products in Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipro.
