Tosyalı Algeria commences slab production

Tosyalı Algeria has commissioned its new electric arc furnace-based flat steelworks with a 2.2 million tonnes/year capacity. The unit has started slab production, with the hot strip mill and new, second direct reduced iron module to follow soon, Kallanish notes.

The cold rolling mill and galvanizing lines are expected to be operational in 2025.

Tosyalı Algerie will fully meet Algeria's flat steel needs, and significantly contribute to the integration of Algerian industry and the growth of non-hydrocarbon export revenue, the company says in a LinkedIn post.

The ongoing project is part of Phase 4 of the expansion of the Tosyali Algerie steel complex, which commenced in 2022. It includes 4m t/y iron ore beneficiation and pelletising plants, a 2.5m t/y direct reduction facility, a 2.2m t/y steelmaking plant, 2m t/y hot strip mill, 0.8m t/y cold reduction line, 0.4m t/y of galvanizing capacity, and 0.2m t/y of colour-coated coil capacity.
