A fire broke out at Acerinox’s plant in Los Barrios, Cádiz on Tuesday, which the company says was started intentionally.
The fire occurred at the company's paper warehouse and firefighters put it out immediately, preventing serious damage to the plant, Kallanish learns from the company.
It occurred simultaneously with a blockade of the unit's entrance, which prevented the minimum services of the morning shift from being carried out. Workers are protesting due to disagreements over the proposed new collective labour agreement. Employees have been on indefinite strike since 5 February. During the day, thousands of workers blocked the national A-7 highway between Algeciras and Málaga for almost six hours.
“We filed a complaint against the strike committee for preventing the entry of minimum services to the factory, sabotage and putting the facilities at risk of damage,” explains Acerinox. The company is considering closing its facilities due to the situation. “We are rethinking the model that the mediation process with workers should follow. Acts of violence and non-compliance with minimum service agreements exceed the limits of admissible pressure in the exercise of the right to strike,” Acerinox concludes.
