Brazil has initiated an official anti-dumping investigation on imports of flat-rolled steel originating from China. This is according to a document from the local foreign trade secretariat of the Brazilian Ministry of Industry (Secex/MDIC) monitored by Kallanish.
The investigation was launched following a request from local producer CSN in October 2023.
The Brazilian authorities note that there is sufficient evidence of damage to the domestic production of goods classified as flat-rolled products, alloyed or non-alloyed, with a thickness of less than 0.5 mm, classified under HS codes 7210.12.00, 7210.50.00, 7212.10.00 and 7212.50.90.
The Secex/MDIC determined that China's flat-rolled steel is entering Brazil at $568.44 per tonne or 44% below the average market value.
The period of investigation is between 1 July 2022 and 31 June 2023. The ministry determined the analysis period is from July 2018 to June 2023.
