In January 2024, Japan’s crude steel output slightly increased by 0.6% year on year to about 7.27 million tons.

Meanwhile, the hot-rolled product production went up by 0.9% year on year to about 6.36 million tons. Japan’s manufacturing purchasing managers index (PMI) was 48, which has shrunk for eight consecutive months.

The automobile manufacturers Toyota and Honda revised their 2024 forecast of automobile sales down, which dramatically made the manufacturing and steel industries weaker.
