Kardemir published a new price list and opened domestic sales for billet on Wednesday, Kallanish notes.
150mm square billet was increased by $5/tonne to $585-595/t ex-works, excluding 18% VAT, from the previous list issued on 11 January.
Amid subdued steel sales Kardemir failed to shift billet volumes and kept sales open until the end of the day. Even the producer’s deferred payment option, which is not available from other Turkish mills, did not help to attract buyers, with total sales heard at around 30,000 tonnes. The previous round on 11 January registered 60,000t of billet sales and was promptly closed by Kardemir (see Kallanish passim).
The lira, whose depreciation continues versus other currencies, stood at around TRY 30.34/$1 on Wednesday.
