Crude steel production among the 71 countries worldwide monthly surveyed by the World Steel Association (WSA) ticked up by 3.3% on year to reach 145.5 million tonnes in November, or expanding for the second month in a row, according to the latest release by the association on Thursday.
Over January-November, the 71 countries saw their total crude steel output gain by a small 0.5% on year to 1.72 billion tonnes, the WSA data showed.
China, the world's top steelmaking country, posted a 0.4% on-year uptick in its crude steel output to 76.1 million tonnes last month, accounting for 52.3% of the world's total, marginally lower than its 52.6% share for October, Mysteel Global calculated based on the WSA data.
China produced 952.1 million tonnes of crude steel during the past 11 months, rising by 1.5% on year, according to WSA.
But on a monthly basis, China's crude steel output had decreased for the fifth straight month in November, down another 3.8% from October, as many blast-furnace mills across the country further slowed their production to ease pressure from the supply side.
In November, crude steel output in the other 70 countries except China climbed by 6.7% on year to 69.4 million tonnes, the data found. This result was also higher than the 3.8% on-year growth for October.
Among the top ten steel-producing countries, India ranked the second in crude steel output and posted double-digit growth both for November and the cumulative January-November, up 11.4% and 12.1% respectively on year to 11.7 million tonnes and 128.2 million tonnes, according to the association.
Meanwhile, Japan and Germany were the only two countries that recorded on-year declines in their crude steel output both for last month and the January-November period, Mysteel Global learned from the release.
