Svolt Energy produces first battery pack in Thailand

Chinese battery manufacturer Svolt Energy has produced its first battery pack in Thailand, targeting the A-segment city car market, Kallanish learns from the company.

The lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack has a capacity of 60 kilowatt-hours, offering a range of 500 kilometres, Svolt says. It features the L600 short blade technology and the LCTP technology, boasting low cost, high production efficiency and high energy density.

With a planned production capacity of 60,000 packs/year in two production lines, Svolt aims to supply the Thai version of the Ora Cat from Chinese carmaker Great Wall Motor. The EV mass delivery is set to start in Q1 2024. The plant in Sriacha Chonburi will produce packs for hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles.

“This production realisation is a milestone of the company’s expansion in Southeast Asia. On top of the power battery packs to be mass-produced in February 2024, Svolt will continue expanding in energy storage integration, especially in the application of light weighted power, and energy storage in Southeast Asia,” said Zhang Feng, Svolt’s ceo of Asia Pacific.

The plant is operated by a joint venture between Svolt’s local subsidiary and Banpu Next. The JV is also expected to launch projects in two- and three-wheelers, as well as battery recycling.
