GAC Aion enters Cambodia in Southeast Asian expansion

Chinese new energy vehicle company GAC Aion has officially entered the Cambodian market with the launch of its Aion Y Plus model, Kallanish learns.

In a press conference in Phnom Penh, GAC Aion said it will partner with local dealer Xinghui. This is the second international market for the Chinese carmaker, following its debut in Thailand earlier this year. The cooperation model applied in Cambodia mirrors the one used in Thailand.

The expansion into Cambodia is a “pivotal move” within its global strategy and innovation initiatives, the company says. With its two brands – Aion and Hyper – it aims “to inject new vitality” into the Cambodian automotive market

Aion plans to complete the sales target of 5,000 units in Southeast Asia in 2023 and strive to establish at least 30 distribution outlets in Thailand this year, covering major regional markets. At present, 21 channel certifications have been completed in Southeast Asia.

On 1 December, GAC Aion reported a 45% on-year increase in its November sales to 41,567 units. Its cumulative sales from January to November were 80% higher, with 434,056 units sold, than in the previous year.
