Mexico initiates AD investigation on Vietnamese steel wire

The Mexican Ministry of Economy (SE) has begun an anti-dumping investigation into permanent and temporary imports of carbon and alloyed micro-welding steel wire from Vietnam, regardless of country of origin, Kallanish notes.

As authorities announced in the country’s Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) on Monday, Mexican producers Electrodos Infra and Plásticos y Alambres stated that Vietnamese imports of said products were made in significant volumes and under conditions of price discrimination, thus causing damage to the national industry. The items are classified under HS codes 7229.20.01, 7229.90.99, 8311.10.99, 8311.30.01 and 8311.90.01.

SE determined the period of investigation should be 1 February 2022 to 31 January 2023. The analysis covers the period between February 2020 and January 2023.

Last week, the Mexican Ministry of Economy initiated a review to potentially extend for a second consecutive time a countervailing duty on permanent and temporary imports of the carbon and alloyed micro-welding steel wire from China (see Kallanish passim).
