Mexico withdraws Chinese steel mesh countervailing duty

Mexico’s Ministry of Economy (SE) has removed the countervailing duty on imported galvanized square welded steel mesh from China.

The authority determined in its final examination that eliminating the duty on such products will not hurt domestic production, as announced in the country’s Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) on 21 September monitored by Kallanish.

SE initially imposed a compensatory duty of $0.45/kg on the Chinese imports of products under the following tariff codes: 7314.19.03, 7314.19.99, 7314.31.01, 7314.41.01 and 7314.49.99 in April 2009. The measure was extended in 2013 and 2018.

The last review had been requested by steelmaker Deacero with a period of investigation from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022.
