Dexin plans to run third blast furnace soon

PT Dexin Steel Indonesia has revised its steelmaking capacity upwards, Kallanish notes. The mill is targeting to start its third blast furnace in the middle of this month.

After the blast furnace is running, the company's steelmaking capacity at its integrated steel plant located the Morowali Industrial Park, Central Sulawesi, will be expanded to 7m tonnes/year. This is higher than the officially announced 6m t/y. The company had earlier indicated that its third blast furnace will start running in August. “It is not a delay, but an adjustment,” a source close to the company says. The plant’s existing capacity utilising its two blast furnaces is 4m t/y. All three blast furnaces are of 1,780 cubic metre volume.

The leading Indonesian mill plans to produce more semi-finished steel with the additional 1m t/y steelmaking capacity. The expected output mix is as follows: 3.3m t/y of billet, 2.2m t/y of slab, 500,000 t/y of wire rod and 1m t/y of bar. Previously, it was targeting to produce 1m t/y of bar products, 1m t/y of wire rod, 2.2m t/y of billet and 1.8m t/y of slab. The company has indicated to Kallanish that the product ratio mix can vary according to the market situation.
