Kazakhstan has approved a roadmap to create charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, says the country’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development.
The roadmap supports the creation of the necessary infrastructure for EVs in all major cities of the republic by 2029. It will spell out the regulatory and technical requirements for the design and development of infrastructure, the production of Kazakh equipment and the installation location of charging stations.
According to a ministry’s document, the blueprint also calls for the introduction of various incentive measures and mechanisms for the adoption of EVs and development of related infrastructure, Kallanish notes.
To date, there are over 100 charging points in major cities of the country and along the Almaty-Astana highway. They were built by the Zhasyl Damu company. In particular, there are 51 stations in Astana, 52 in Almaty, Pavlodar and Aktau, as well as one recharging station on the Astana-Schuchinsk highway.
There are six ultra-fast Tesla Supercharger EZSs on the territory of the capital’s Talan Tower complex, and the country also has other charging points installed by private individuals and business entities.
In Kazakhstan, passenger electric vehicles are produced by the JAC iEV7S and Kia EV6 brands at the SaryarkaAvtoProm plant. However, according to the Bureau of National Statistics, only 140 EVs have been produced since 2016. Authorities plan to expand domestic production of electric cars of various brands.
