Thai steel consumption, production fall in H1

Thailand's finished steel consumption and production dipped during the first half of the year, Kallanish notes. However, Thai steel exports and imports increased.

Overall steel consumption during January-June fell by 3.1% year-on-year to 8.50 million tonnes, according to the Iron & Steel Institute of Thailand (ISIT). Every steel product with the exception of bar & seections, galvanized steet and other coated sheet products saw a y-o-y drop. Production during the first half contracted by 14.3% to 3.35mt (see tables below).

Thai steel imports in the period rose by 5.7% y-o-y to 5.89mt. Imports of long products registered an increase of 9.4% while that of flats, a rise of 4.7% yoy. Thailand's cummulative steel exports rose by 4.5% to 736,016t during January-June. These comprised 489,366t of longs and 246,650t of flats.
