Vietnam's leading steelmaker Hoa Phat Group has held a ceremony for its first container shipment on 4 August. The producer has delivered 100 of the 20ft containers to New Way Lines Company at the ceremony, and signed another order for 500 of the 20ft-containers.
The construction of Hoa Phat’s container plant in the Phu My II Industrial Park in Vung Tau started in November 2021. A total of 500,000 TEU (Twenty-feet Equivalent Unit) containers will be produced every year at the plant. It is currently producing up to 200,000 TEU/year. Hoa Phat will focus on the production of popular container products with lengths of 20 and 40 feet.
Kallanish learns from the company, around 1 million tonnes/year of hot-rolled coil will be used by producing the 500,000 TEU/y containers.
The steelmaker also introduced that shipping containers are made from Hoa Phat’s own HRC products, such as weather-resistant and expensive SPA-H steel. Steel accounts for about 55% of the production cost, according to its estimates.
