India’s crude steel production totaled around 66.1 million tons in the first half of this year, rising by 5% compared to the same period a year ago. The increase in crude steel output supported the demand for iron ore.
During the period, India’s iron ore production amounted to 152 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 12.6%. Iron ore exports also hiked greatly by 75% year on year to 21 million tons.
However, India’s steel exports in the first half of the year slid by 30% year on year due to less competitiveness of India’s steel prices. On the contrary, India’s first-half finished steel imports grew by 33% year on year to 2.7 million tons.
