Australian miner Widgie Nickel says it has intercepted high-grade nickel at Widgie Townsite, part of its Widgie South in Western Australia, Kallanish reports.
The company claims significant nickel mineralisation intercepted at Widgie Townsite confirms high-grade nickel discovery on Eastern Limb of Widgie Townsite Syncline. Drilling also increased resource confidence for future mining studies at Widgie Townsite, it adds.
Some of the assay results from its recent reverse circulation (RC) drilling include 29 metres at 1.66% nickel from 79 m, including 5 m at 3.23% nickel; and 30.85m at 1.59% nickel from 435 m including 3.36m at 3.27% nickel.
The company sees Widgie South, comprising Widgie 3, Widgie Townsite, Gillett and Gillett North, as a cornerstone mining centre within its nickel portfolio. It has a nickel endowment of 71,800 tonnes of indicated and inferred resources.
“The extent of Widgie South’s resource growth potential is rising rapidly. Just a week after detailing high-grade results at both Gillett and the Gillett North target we have delivered another set of strong results at Widgie Townsite, which is our largest deposit,” says Widgie Nickel managing director Steve Norregaard.
According to the director, the scale and magnitude of the mineralisation will underpin the firm’s Widgie South development and, in turn, the company’s larger-scale production aspirations at Mt Edwards.
These results confirm the continuity of the high-grade mineralisation and have unveiled the potential for a new mineralised surface adding to the scale of the endowment, Norregaard adds.
“With drilling at the Widgie South area nearing an end, results from Widgie 3 are still to come, when we turn to resource re-estimation with much higher confidence levels. A solid foundation from which we can fully evaluate the best possible execution strategy for our long-life nickel project,” he says.
Widgie South is part of the company’s Mt Edwards project near Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.
