Turkey’s wire rod exports fall, imports surge in Jan-May y-o-y

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey’s wire rod exports totaled around 196,000 tons in the first five months of this year, dropping by 65% compared to the same period a year ago. The decrease in exports was mainly due to lower demand.

Among them, exports to Israel accounted for the largest proportion, totaling around 99,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 24%. Turkey’s wire rod exports to Australia reached 18,000 tons, which surged more than double year on year. Exports to Romania plunged by 76% year on year to 16,000 tons.

During the same period, Turkey imported 320,000 tons of wire rods, soaring by 75% year on year. Russia was the biggest supplier with 86,000 tons, hiking by around one time year on year. Egypt ranked second with 51,000 tons, and there was no supply in a year-ago period.
