Chinese automaker Chery plans to establish new electric vehicle plants in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, Kallanish learns.
At a recent China-ASEAN industry forum, the general manager of Chery’s Indonesian branch Qu Jizong explained that the EV production expansion will cover all EV models of the brand, including and not limited to battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The expansion plan is expected to improve the EV penetration of the ASEAN countries. However, further details on the proposed plants are yet to be revealed.
This year, the automaker has launched several new energy vehicle models, including the Ruihu 7 Plus, the Ruihu 8 Pro, the new-generation Zhuifeng, and the new-generation Jietu Dasheng i-DM.
In April, the company introduced its new energy strategy, under which it plans to have comprehensive coverage including hybrid energy, battery electric, and hydrogen energy models.
Its first iCAR 03, a pure electric model, was produced in June. Its sub-brand Exeed also launched a new NEV series with the inaugural Sterra ES BEV debuting at the recently held Shanghai Auto Show.
Chery plans to launch over 20 new hybrid models in 2024.
