Volkswagen to accelerate EV charging expansion in China

Volkswagen China announces two major decisions regarding its plan to accelerate the electric vehicle charging layout expansions in China. This plan involves collaborations with some other enterprises in the automotive industry, Kallanish learns.

The Chinese subsidiary of the German carmaker group plans to partner with FAW-VW to jointly invest about CNY 800 million ($110.49m) in EV charging firm CAMS New Energy Technology.

In addition, VW China and CAMS will collaborate with the vehicle charging network company of the state-owned National Grid. They will jointly launch V1G pilot projects in Beijing, Tianjin and Heibei areas; explore sustainable and more flexible charging solutions; and lower the charging costs for clients.

The plan was made to satisfy the increasingly diversified demand of Chinese customers. In the V1G pilot projects, smart remote-controlled technology can modify the power of the charging wall box according to the requirements of grid load regulations, promote peak shifting and valley filling of the grid, balance power supply and demand, and help maintain the stability of the grid.

Meanwhile, EV users in these areas are able to enjoy lower charging costs. For the first phase of this project, which starts this month and last until June 2024, 2,400 EV users will be able to enjoy the benefits.
