Ternium, a leading steel manufacturing company in Latin America, planned to build a new electric arc furnace (EAF) slab mill, with an annual capacity of 2.6 million tons, at its existing hot rolling facility in Pesquería in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo León. The hot rolling mill has a capacity of 4.4 million tons per year.
The construction was scheduled to start in December, and the facility was expected to begin operation in the first half of 2026.
Ternium first disclosed this project in February, saying that it hoped to increase its steel supply in Mexico to meet requirements of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) that will be implemented in 2027.
