Thailand’s Commerce Ministry has extended the anti-dumping (AD) duty exemption on tinplate and tin-free steel from China, South Korea, Taiwan, and the EU for another six months until November 10, 2023, which has been the fourth consecutive six-month duty exemption since November 2021.
Wisit Limleucha, vice president of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said that Thailand’s canned product manufacturers would face higher material costs and have no choice but to hike their prices if there was no duty exemption, which would weaken their export competitiveness, adding that Thailand’s production of tinplate and tin-free steel can only fulfill 50% of the domestic demand.
Without the exemption, the AD duty for China’s tinplate is 2.45% to 17.46%, that for South Korea is 8.71% to 22.67%, that for Taiwan is 4.28% to 20.45%, and that for the EU is 5.82%. For tin-free steel, the AD duty rate for China, South Korea, and the EU is 4.53%-24.73%, 3.95%-17.06%, and 18.52%, respectively. All above duty rates are imposed on CIF prices.
