Japanese battery giant Panasonic and its compatriot conglomerate Marubeni are planning a joint venture to provide fleet management services for commercial electric vehicles, Kallanish learns from Panasonic.
The new company will focus on various solutions in areas covering charging, battery monitoring, and vehicle maintenance in order to improve the operations efficiency and quality of the clients.
The name of the 50-50 joint venture hasn't been decided yet. It is expected to be established in Tokyo next month.
The partnership combines the technological advantages of Panasonic with the industry resources of Marubeni to promote electrification in Japan’s commercial vehicle industry.
In addition, as Panasonic disclosed in the statement, the joint venture may also enter the scrapped battery recycling field in the future.
The battery manufacturer has recently suggested that Japanese carmakers are showing interest in its cylindrical cells under development primarily for Tesla, but it didn’t name them. It also said that it will continue to develop its business in China despite geopolitical tensions and that companies should be “de-risking not decoupling” from the world’s second-largest economy.
