• East China, domestic, commercial-grade HRC (4.5-12mm), traded at 3,550-3,570 yuan ($505-508) per tonne, including value-added tax.

• In Shanghai on Friday afternoon, 5.5x1,500mm Q235 HRC was tradable at around CNY 3,520-3,540/tonne ($500-503/t), CNY 30/t higher from the previous Friday. On the Shanghai Futures Exchange, the May 2020 HRC contract closed CNY 29/t higher than Thursday and CNY 74/t higher over the week at CNY 3,484/t. – source: Kallanish

Scrap

• Fastmarkets' daily index for steel scrap, HMS 1&2 (80:20 mix), US origin, cfr Turkey, was $281.25 per tonne on February 21, up from $274.82 per tonne on February 14. – source: Fastmarkets

 

• Turkish steelmakers booked eight cargoes totaling almost 250,000 tonnes of scrap last week. Four cargoes were booked from the Baltic Sea at $276-279 per tonne cfr, two from the United States at $280-282.50 per tonne cfr and two from Europe at $276-284 per tonne cfr. – source: Fastmarkets

 

• Vietnamese imported ferrous scrap prices were stable over the week, with buyers bypassing the US export market in favor of Japanese material. • Containerized ferrous scrap import prices in Taiwan surged by $15-20 per tonne during the week ended February 21, with buyers clamoring for material due to diverted cargoes and higher freight costs.
